GST Portal Password and Username: How to Change or Retrieve?

For retrieving your GST portal username, follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Visit the official GST portal website (www.gst.gov.in).

2. On the homepage, find and click on the ‘Existing User Login’ option.

In case you’ve forgotten your GST portal password, you can easily reset a new one. Follow the steps given below:

1.Click on www.gst.gov.in to visit the official GST portal.

2.On the login page, you will find a button 'Forgot Password' as displayed below. You need to click that button to reset your password and enter a new one.

To protect your financial data and adhere to GST requirements, it's essential to keep your GST portal password secure. Here are some important tips:

• ● Change the password regularly:You can update your password once a year to reduce the risk of unauthorised access as your GST account carries vital business information.
• ● Use a strong password: You can consider creating a password that combines upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters so that it becomes difficult for unauthorised users. Don’t use words that are easy to guess or patterns that are very common. Use something that is unique but easy for you to remember.
• ● Don't share your password:Never share your GST portal password with anyone, as disclosing it will invite unauthorised access to your vital business data.
• ● Enable two-factor authentication:Use two-factor authentication to protect your GST account with added security as you do with your g-mail account so that you get notified instantly if someone tries to access your GST account.

GSTN issued Important advisory on Two-factor Authentication for Taxpayers to strengthen login security in GST portal

The GSTN issued Important Advisory No. 618 dated December 01, 2023 on Two-factor Authentication for Taxpayers to strengthen the login security in the GST portal. GSTN is introducing two-factor authentication (2FA) for taxpayers to strengthen the login security in GST portal. The pilot rollout has been done for a state of Haryana and working seamlessly.

Taxpayers would need to provide one-time password (OTP) post entering user ID and password, the OTP will be delivered to their Primary Authorized Signatory “Mobile number and E-mail id”.

Tax-payers are requested to keep their email and mobile number of authorized signatory updated on the GST Portal for receiving the OTP communication. This OTP would only be asked, in case the tax-payer changes the system (desktop or laptop or br/owser) and location.

As per the notification, the solution would be rolled out from December 01, 2023.
